What to Look For When Buying a Juicer for Ginger

best ginger juicer

As we mentioned above, the number one thing that’s required from a really good juicer for ginger is strength.

You see, many juicers have been designed to juice more traditionally used produce such as carrots and oranges, which is rather easy.

When dealing with ginger root, however, you need a machine that can both crush the ginger and separate the tough skin and interior from the delicious juice.

In turn, this means that you can't just use any juicer when making ginger juice. We’ve actually found that many of the weaker and cheaply made juicers struggle to handle the root and can even catch on fire.

Generally speaking, there are two types of juicers - centrifugal and masticating - and we’ve found that one works better for ginger juice than the other.

Centrifugal Juicer

A centrifugal juicer operates very fast and can juice most things in just a few seconds. However, one of the downsides is that it doesn’t produce enough juice which is wasteful, especially when juicing ginger. Centrifugal juicers also often transfer a lot of heat from the motor which results in a warm juice.

Masticating Juicer

The other most commonly used juicer is called a masticating juicer which we consider the best type of of juicer for ginger. Masticating juicers are sometimes called slow or cold juicers because they are considerably slower, although the yield is bigger and retains more of the nutrients than a centrifugal juicer.

The downside of masticating juicers is that they often have more parts than their centrifugal counterparts which means they are more complicated to clean.

With that said, our main tip when buying a ginger juicer is to go for a strong masticating juicer since you’re almost guaranteed great juice every time. There are certain exceptions to the rule, and centrifugal juicers do have their place, but typically you're going to get much more ginger juice from a masticating juicer.

Below we've recommended the best juicers to make ginger juice.

1. Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer - Best Juicer For Ginger Shots

Aicok - Best Juicer for Ginger Shots

  • Juicing system: Masticating
  • Pros: Resilient when it comes to juicing ginger and other tougher vegetables.
  • Cons: We would like fewer parts to streamline the cleaning process.

This isn't our first time recommending the Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer because in our opinion it’s one of the best cold press juicers out there.

Not only can this juicer handle a lot, but it also has one of the most advanced juicing systems out there. This slow masticating juicer is ideal for juicing ginger since it utilizes a juice and pulp separation function which ensures there won't be any chunks and foam in your ginger juice.

Now, this is not the cheapest juicer out there, but it’s also far from the most expensive. And since it’s extremely efficient and perfectly separates the juice from fibers, peel, seeds, and other junk each and every time, we think it’s worth every penny.

Another bonus is that this Aicok juicer is known for being quieter than its competitors which is always a plus in our book.

2. Breville the Big Squeeze - Ultra Powerful Juicer Machine

Breville Big Squeeze Juicer

  • Juicing system: Masticating

Breville is generally considered to be the best juicer brand in the world, and if super high-quality is your thing, this juicer is for you.

This Australian kitchen brand makes all types of appliances, but it was their juicers that put them on the map.

Breville recently launched a new juicer called Big Squeeze, which is quite different from their previous models with an updated slow juicing system and a unique design.

The Big Squeeze Juicer is a monster when it comes to juicing and nothing can stop it. The machine features an extra wide chute that can fit an entire ginger root, whole apples, and celery, it’s ultra-quiet and easy to use. It also has a quick-rinse feature that allows you to clean it without having to take it apart, and if you’re putting several fruits in at once, you can use the blending feature to ensure that all the flavors are mixed together.

3. Aobosi Slow Masticating Juicer - Best Ginger Juicer if You're On a Budget

  • Juicing system: Masticating
  • Pros: Spins at 80 RPM and extracts high nutritional yield.
  • Cons: Quick and easy to clean as well as on the quieter side.

  • This juice extractor was specifically developed to handle tough things like ginger root and other vegetables that are hard to juice properly like leafy greens. It was also designed to produce a higher yield juice that contains more nutrients than its competitors, and it works like a charm.

Besides being ideal for making ginger juice, it has a safe lock system that allows you to disassemble and reassemble it in minutes, and it is completely free of BPA.

In terms of useful features, the Aobosi juicer has a reverse function to avoid food getting stuck and a smaller chute to avoid injuries. Now, a smaller chute means you have to prep your fruits and vegetables in advance which takes time, but it also ensures the ingredients are peeled for healthier juice.

    4. Hamilton Beach Slow Masticating Juicer - Easy to Clean

    Hamilton Budget Machine

    • Juicing system: Masticating
    • Pros: Great value for the price.
    • Cons: Not necessarily the most durable juicer.
    • Buy it here: Amazon

Hamilton Beach has made a name for themselves of offering long-lasting and reliable kitchen appliances, and we love that they offer such a wide variety of fairly-priced products.

Their selection of juicers is surprisingly extensive, although most of the machines are centrifugal juicers which might struggle to make ginger juice.

The one exception is the Hamilton Beach Masticating Juicer which has a masticating system that can go neck and neck with the best. Hamilton themselves highlights its ability to handle ginger root.

When buying a Hamilton juicer, you’re not only paying for your machine, but you’re also paying for a legacy that spans back to 1910.

Tips On How To Make a Great Ginger Juice

Lastly, we wanted to offer some tips on how to make a great ginger juice.

Ginger shots pack a powerful kick (which we personally love), but if you find it to be a bit strong, you can always add some water to lessen the spice. Feel free to get creative and experiment by adding a squeeze of lemon and whatever else you might like.

The other option we recommend is using ginger as an addition to other juices you make. This can both help boost the nutritional value of your juice while also adding an invigorating hint of zing.

We have tried several ginger juice combinations and have really enjoyed all of them. However, we have found ginger root tends to do especially well with carrots, apples, and oranges. The combination helps offset the spiciness of ginger. Moreover, we tend to add some leafy greens to take the juice to the next health level.
