The Most Vegan-Friendly Countries in Asia

As two people who have spent most of our twenties traveling in Asia, we know a thing or two about the region. During our travels, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting some of the most vegan-friendly destinations in the world and some places where it was a lot harder to find vegan food. But Asia has been different, and that’s mostly thanks to the local cuisines.

You see what makes Asia so unique compared to Europe, North America, and Latin America is that many of the traditional cuisines are so vegan-friendly on their own, which is a big reason why we’ve fallen in love with this region.

We love to find all vegan restaurants that serve burgers and pizza with vegan cheese just as much as the next person, but our favorite way of traveling is discovering local cuisines and having our minds blown by the traditional food of the countries we visit.

Food is how we connect to places and how we perceive new cultures. Our goal is to experience the world through food, no matter where we travel. To us, the best food experience is sitting shoulder to shoulder in a loud and sweaty restaurant in India eating masala dosas with our hands next to locals enjoying a quick breakfast before work.

But, not everyone realizes how vegan-friendly Asia can be. Southeast Asia comes up when the subject is discussed, but South Asia is often overlooked by vegan travelers which is a shame since it offers some of the best food in the region.

Read on to discover the most vegan-friendly countries in Asia.

Time for a Fika: An Introduction to Swedish Coffee Culture

The Swedish food culture might not be the most interesting or exciting in the world, especially not for vegans since it tends to be very meat heavy. And besides the exception of Swedish meatballs which can be easily veganized these days and even enjoyed at IKEA in a vegan version, there aren’t many dishes from Sweden that are celebrated outside of the country’s borders.

However, there is a part of the Swedish coffee culture that’s both unique and undervalued in the rest of the world, and I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about it.

I am, of course, talking about the Swedish fika, or the art of making coffee and sweets a part of your everyday life. It might sound strange but it’s an integral part of the Swedish culture and something most Swedes take part in on the regular. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to eat sweets and drink coffee every day?

The Best Yoga Studio in Ubud, Bali

Although there are tons of yoga schools in Bali, Ubud is renowned worldwide in particular for being a yogi mecca.

Before our first visit to Bali, we were far from yogis. However, the idea of doing yoga in Ubud had always intrigued us, and we decided it was time to start taking things more seriously. And let’s be honest, what better place to improve a yoga routine than in Ubud?

Now, after our many stints of living in Ubud, we have created a great routine and practice yoga on a regular basis.

What is particularly special about this small Balinese town is that there are numerous yoga studios in Ubud and the selection is varied. Each yoga studio offers something different, and it shouldn’t be difficult for you to find a studio that fits your needs and preferences.

Some have large classes with many participants, while others offer smaller more intimate settings. There are also differences in price as well as the classes on offer. Regardless of whether you prefer an easier yin yoga class or an advanced vinyasa flow session, there is yoga in Ubud for everyone.

We tried several yoga classes in Ubud with mixed experiences. In the end, we enjoyed Intuitive Flow a yoga studio in Penestanan the most so that is where we did most of our classes.

Here are our 4 reasons why we think Intuitive Flow is the best studio for doing yoga in Ubud.
